Firstly, I want to get to know you! I’d love to be a friend and chat about the incredible ideas and stories you have. This helps both of us learn about each other while also enabling us to gauge whether we’re the right fit.
Then, I offer a free sample of up to 10 pages. You’re welcome to use this opportunity as means to decide if you want to move forward with the hiring process.
Once you are ready to move forward, I will offer you a formal contract. I want to be sure that you feel protected should you need to alter the agenda, raise a complaint, or request a refund. It is important to me that you stay in legal control of the quality you expect. No one should ever have to fear they are putting their money at risk.
Polish & Pitch is a registered Limited Liability Company that conducts business to the highest expectation of the law.
Invoice and Payment
You will be sent an invoice upon the signing of your contract. I do keep my rates under the recommended wage posted by the Editorial Freelancers Association but recognize that pricing is difficult for many. I sincerely care about making editing affordable and therefore have the following payment options-
In full. This method requires the full service to be paid upfront before services begin.
50/50. This method requires that 50% of the cost be paid upfront and the remaining 50% be paid after the completed service or by an agreed upon date (as stated within the contract). My notes and editor’s letter will not be delivered until the final payment is received.
By chapter. This method splits the cost across each chapter, according to the word count of each respective section. Service begins upon receipt of payment for the agreed upon chapter. You set the pace for how much time you need between a finished chapter and payment for the next. Think of it as a pay-as-you-go service. You get to be in charge of what is edited and when, enabling you to budget accordingly.
My invoices are sent electronically via Paypal. International clients can expect to be billed according to the proper exchange rate.
Now we can get into the good stuff!
My goal as an editor is to help you reflect on every aspect of your manuscript. I’m looking for your core intentions, the quality of your craft, viability of the story, and marketability. You can expect comments on your world building, settings, character development, pacing, tension, stakes, resolutions, and more. My intention is to educate you and elevate your book to the level it needs to be in order to be taken seriously as a commercial product ready for reading consumption.
I communicate these thoughts via in-doc comments and TrackChanges on Word, as well as via an open line of chat. You are welcome to email or message me anytime to discuss revisions. I am also available for up to 2 live chats by phone or Skype.
Service price does include up to 2 post-edit reads to provide feedback on your revisions and polish off any remaining punctuation or grammar issues. Additional reads can be requested at the cost of $50 each.
